A useful native shrub that thrives in diverse conditions. Spreads by rhizomes to form thickets. The glossy leaves are fragrant when crushed and turn a wonderful array of oranges and reds in fall. May produce furry red berries that are eaten by birds or will persist into winter. Grows well in a range of soils, including clay, but avoid areas with poor drainage.
